St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Bell
Faith
Cast in Sheffield in 1859 by Naylor Vickers and Co. under E. Riepe’s Patent no 1027, the bell arrived in Boston in 1862, then was shipped around the Horn to San Francisco, sent by boat to Sacramento, and hauled by six-horse team to Forest Hill. Miners raised $3,500 to pay for it and christened it the Bell of St. Joseph. The church burned in 1952, and a monument was erected in 1958.
