This place expresses gratitude to all U.S.A. veterans for freedom and honors the memory of Sgt. Bernard G. Southerton of the U.S. Army, a World War II prisoner of war who received four Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. It also includes a poem by Edwin J. Harend spoken in the voice of a soldier from wars past, recalling brave service, blood shed for freedom, and death in war, then speaking from heaven where there is no war and peace is forever, with thanks for being remembered.
