This lot was originally sold by H.M. Homsley to P.C. Mitchell for $200 in December 1871, then from Mitchell and his wife to J.W. Smith in May 1872 for $900, then from the Smith Estate in June 1872 to Mr. Burns for $19.50 in delinquent taxes, then from Burns to R.D. Smith, a relative, and from Smith to J.W. Greene in February 1882. Greene took 2 notes from Mr. Blum and Mr. Lindsey for a total of $7000 for construction of the present building. The building next went to Dora Greene in September 1944, then to her son Cyril Greene, and then to his daughter Kathleen Marshall, who sold the building to John Huett in February 1977. The Greene family owned the building from 1882 until 1977. Early businesses here included the Carnes/Wilson Saloon in 1874, which John Wesley Hardin entered before heading up the street to the east to the Jack Wright Saloon and the shooting of Brown County Deputy John Webb, Chilton Bros. and Cunningham Dry-Goods in the early 1900s, a grocery store during the 1940s and 1950s owned by Mr. Thate, a Western Auto Store in the 1960s and 1970s owned by Walter Niemann, and the Service Drug from 1977 until February 2006, when it closed after 75 years in business.
