District School No. 2 stood here for 110 years as the oldest public building in Stevens Point. Completed in 1850, its appearance reflected New England heritage, and it served the pioneer community as a school, recreation and civic center, and often as a church. In 1853, the first Roman Catholic Mass was said here, and in 1858 the first Common Council of the newly chartered city of Stevens Point met here with Mayor William Schofield presiding.
