Bangor served as the county seat of Walworth County from 1884 to 1909. During this period, the county seat shifted from Scranton in 1883–1884 to Bangor in 1884–1904, to Selby in 1904–1905, back to Bangor in 1905–1909, and then to Selby in 1909–1950.
