Charles Hardy, one of the first settlers in Mesquite, used lumber he brought back from Mount Trumbull and local adobe to build the original large central room of his home, and the other rooms were added later. That room served as a bedroom, living room, school, and church. After Mesquite's permanent settlement in 1894, the first school classes and church meetings held there took place in the home built on this site.
