In 2016, a 12x16 mosaic mural painted on Evolon was created for the Global Mural Conference. Organized by art teacher Lisa Petrosino, it consists of 728 six-inch squares painted by art students from elementary and college levels across New York State. “They Call me Sal” features the history of New York State along with its flora and fauna, including roses, blue birds, Harriet Tubman, and the World Trade Center. It is the tenth mural in Lyons, serves as a gateway mural greeting bikers and others on the Empire Trail, and is mounted on the Rochester-Syracuse Trolley abutment. The mural was made possible by a grant from the Erie Canalway, Canal Corporation, donations from Greystone Paper for Evolon, paint from Golden Artist Colors, and a donation from F.S. Short and Son Contractors of Sodus, N.Y. to seal it.
