The Lewis Mound Group is a prehistoric Native American mound site in McFarland, southeast of Madison, overlooking the eastern shore of Lake Waubesa. Built by late Woodland people, it endures as an archaeological site within Indian Mound Park. Its earthworks include a bear effigy, a hook-shaped mound, and geometric forms, reflecting the combination of animal-shaped and abstract designs that characterize Wisconsin’s mound-building traditions. The site remains visible from public trails in the village-owned park near Indian Mound Middle School and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
