A water trough was originally installed on Main Street in 1896, and a second trough stood farther down the street. Before the advent of the automobile, these troughs played a vital role in providing water for horses and others. They were later removed and stored for decades to preserve this iconic part of Downtown Perry, and as part of the Main Street Improvement project of 2016, this trough was restored to its original location.
