Leslie J. Campbell Jr., a native of Great Bend, enlisted in the USAAF in 1943 and served during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. His decorations included the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Accommendation Medal, Army Accommendation Medal, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.
