Francis Geary, a cornet in the 16 (The Queen's) Light Dragoons, was born in 1752 and was killed in action here on December 14, 1776, while serving King George III. He was the eldest son of Admiral Sir Francis Geary, Baronet. In 1907, his great nephew, Sir William Nevill M. Geary, Baronet, erected this tribute.
