Ollie Mason, son of W.E. and Almadia Duboise, was born on Oct. 25, 1922, volunteered for the U.S. Navy on Nov. 9, 1942, completed training at Great Lakes, Ill., and was torpedoed and sank off the northern coast of Cuba on May 13, 1943, while serving as a gunner on the merchant vessel S.S. Mambi. He was remembered as having died in the service of his country at sea in the Atlantic area, among patriots who dared to die that freedom might live and grow.
