Tower of Set is a prominent butte in the Grand Canyon of northern Arizona, rising 6,012 feet and standing near Hopi Point on the South Rim, with its summit about 3,600 feet above the Colorado River. Named in 1879 as Temple of Sett and officially renamed in 1906, it reflects the Grand Canyon tradition of mythological place-names linked here to the Egyptian deity Set. Its cliffs expose major rock layers from the Supai Group down through Redwall Limestone and the Tonto Group to Vishnu Basement Rocks at river level. A proposed 1919 aerial tramway was never built, and the first recorded ascent came in 1977.
