Horus Temple is a 6,150-foot butte in the Grand Canyon of northern Arizona, forming the central peak in a three-part line southwest of Shiva Temple. Its summit is a flat north-south platform made of Supai Group rocks and capped by resistant Esplanade Sandstone, while its north end rises in a fractured remnant of Coconino Sandstone above the Hermit Formation. Below, the butte displays the Grand Canyon’s characteristic sequence of rock layers, including Redwall Limestone, Muav Limestone, Bright Angel Shale, and Tapeats Sandstone. These stacked formations make it a compact example of the canyon’s stepped geology, shaped by differences in rock hardness.
