Wilson Island State Recreation Area is a five hundred forty-four-acre park near Missouri Valley in western Iowa, in a forested stretch along the Missouri River. Named for Governor George A. Wilson, it preserves river-edge woodland while supporting year-round outdoor recreation tied closely to the river. Visitors use a boat ramp and fishing access to reach waters known for catfish, paddlefish, and walleye, while inland the area offers six miles of multi-use trails and a modern campground. Seasonal hunting for deer and birds takes place outside developed areas, and spring morel mushroom foraging also draws visitors, making the park a practical all-seasons destination.
