This was the home of Colonel William Casey, an early Kentucky pioneer and great-grandfather of Samuel L. Clemens, known as Mark Twain. Born in Virginia, he came to Kentucky in 1779, built Casey Station on Dix River, and in 1791 moved to Russell Creek near here. He was a member of the second Kentucky Constitutional Convention in 1799, a trustee of the town of Columbia in 1802, and a presidential elector in 1813. Casey County was named for him in 1806, and he died here in 1816.
