Residents of the Lighthouse community on Ragged Mountain supplied some of their own needs by quarrying stone there for the foundations of their homes. Two large boulders at the site were once a single stone, split apart by a traditional method in which a steel rod and mallet were used to drill a series of holes about ten inches apart in a straight line, after which iron wedges were inserted and hammered until cracks formed between the holes and the rock cleaved in two. The remaining quarry holes show the labor required to produce the foundation stones for Lighthouse village homes.
