Bishop Francis Asbury, famed Methodist circuit rider, often visited the Potomac, Tygart’s, Greenbrier, and Monongahela Valleys. In 1790, on a journey from Georgia to New England, he preached at the cabin of Benjamin Wilson in Tygart’s Valley.
