Richard W. Ervin, born in Carrabelle on January 26, 1905, became one of Florida’s most outstanding public servants. A lawyer, jurist, and fraternalist, he rose from legislative engrossing clerk in 1921 to Attorney General from 1949 to 1964, then served as a Supreme Court Justice from 1964 to 1975 and as Chief Justice from 1969 to 1970. He was also National Director of Woodmen of the World from 1954 to 1975.
