Georgia Mountain is a plateau community in Marshall County, Alabama, northwest of Guntersville, with bluffs overlooking Guntersville Lake. It emerged after the Civil War when Ira Roe Foster left war-damaged Georgia, settled land he had bought earlier along the Tennessee River and Brindlee Mountain, and brought 11 families to the area. They named the community for the state they had left behind. Foster established Foster's Landing and a sawmill, helping supply the settlement. Churches and a school became central to community life. Long a farming area, Georgia Mountain gradually gained roads and utilities and evolved into a growing residential community while retaining descendants of its founding families.
