Lake Guntersville State Park is a major public recreation area on the eastern shore of Guntersville Lake in northern Guntersville, Alabama, spanning 5,909 acres within the Tennessee River landscape. Established after the Tennessee Valley Authority transferred 4,000 acres to the state in 1947, it opened to the public in 1974. The park combines resort lodging with outdoor recreation, including cottages, campground, fishing, golf, beach facilities, and 36 miles of National Recreation Trails. It was heavily damaged by two tornadoes during the April 2011 outbreak, then rebuilt and replanted. In 2020, it was among eleven Alabama state parks to receive Tripadvisor’s Traveler’s Choice Award.
