A 1950 GMC winch truck was owned and operated by FORA Oil Co. of Borger and served as one of the oil patch’s workhorses, built to withstand harsh daily conditions and equipped with a winch and gin poles for lifting and placing equipment. Licensed and worked regularly from 1950 to 1977, it later remained in use on a private lease for lifting, hauling, and placing equipment until 2014. With a powerful winch built into a headache rack behind the cab, the truck could also haul pipe and other long loads secured to the rack. Its bed was fitted with heavy-duty tool boxes and a rolling tail board to help place and unload heavy equipment and tools precisely. Like many winch trucks, it was custom built by its owners to meet the specific needs of their company.
