Early Electric Power Generation
Science & Tech
5
The building foundation remnants visible down the river are those of an electric power generation station that began operation in the late 1890's. Water power drove belts connected to machinery and, in this case, to a generator that provided electric power for the local community and a growing trolley car line. Such local individual power stations were gradually linked together to help produce electric power throughout the State of Maine.
