Silver Mountain is a 4,170-foot summit in San Bernardino County, California, east of La Delta. Though a modest desert mountain, it became associated with one of the region’s early mining discoveries when a January 1873 strike at what became the Oro Grande Mine yielded ore reported at $160 in gold and $18 in silver per ton. That discovery led to the organization of the Silver Mountain Mining District and connected the summit to the brief but intense mining activity that influenced much of the surrounding area.
