Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe leaders, known as Naca, are honored for making an impact on the lives of their people, assuring the safety of their traditions, and helping preserve their native language. Through their leadership, their people continue to grow as a nation, reflecting the phrase, "Lecamu hantas, mitakuye ob wani kte lo" (If I do this, through my people I will live.). Those recognized are Long Mandan, One Horn, White Swan, Little Bear, Black Shield, Black Moon, White Bull Spotted Elk, Crow Feather, Spotted Eagle, Brown Thunder, Council Bear, Standing Elk, Flying By Black Eagle, Swift Bird, Black Spotted Horse, Rattling Rib, Red Tomahawk, Hump, Touch the Clouds Charger, No Heart, Spotted Bear, Four Bear, White Horse, Fool Dog, and Roan Bear. Burial sites along the Missouri River were relocated because of the building of the Oahe Dam under the Pick-Sloan Act of 1942.
