Edge of Appalachia Preserve is a vast protected landscape along the Appalachian Escarpment in Adams County, Ohio, and the largest privately owned nature preserve in the state. First brought to scientific attention in the 1920s by ecologist Emma Lucy Braun, it began in 1959 with The Nature Conservancy’s purchase of 42 acres near Lynx and grew into a system of ten adjoining preserves managed with the Cincinnati Museum Center. Its forests protect exceptional biodiversity, including 30 ecological communities, eight rare worldwide, more than 1,200 plant species, and over 100 rare plant and animal species. National Natural Landmarks and an extensive trail network make it both scientifically important and accessible.
