Antler arches have stood as gates to the Jackson Town Square since 1960. Their antlers come from elk that winter on the National Elk Refuge, where about 7,500 elk spend each winter. The bulls shed their antlers each spring, and local Boy Scouts collect them and sell them at public auction in the square each May. All four arches were built by the Jackson Hole Rotary Club, and removing antlers from them is unlawful and subject to $750 in fines.
