The Johannes Knetzger family immigrated to America in 1842, purchased land for 65-cents per acre, and settled in Germantown. With a rich supply of timber in the area, the two-story log house was built in 1861-62. Trees were felled and used to build the home, and land was cleared for crops and dairy farming. Several additions to the original log house were built through the years. Total restoration of the house was completed in 1988 by the Lamm family, with the original hand-hewn log sections exposed and a stone chimney added. A barn and several clustered outbuildings built by Johannes Knetzger still remain today. Knetzger families lived in the home for 144 years.
