Elting Cemetery stands on a meadow and family burial ground donated to the village in 2017 by descendants of Jacob Elting. Among the earliest families of New Paltz, the Eltings also gave the Bevier-Elting House and the Harcourt Sanctuary to the Huguenot Historical Society and contributed the Elting Memorial Library building. Their gift of the Sanctuary to the Huguenot Historical Society enabled the creation of the Nyquist-Harcourt Wildlife Sanctuary.
