The River to River Trail is a 160-mile route across far southern Illinois through the Shawnee National Forest, stretching from the Ohio River area to Grand Tower on the Mississippi. Used by hikers and equestrians, with about half of its course on off-road trails, it links many of the region’s best-known natural places, including wilderness areas, state parks, and forest landmarks, while also passing small communities and local features. Historically associated with Battery Rock at its eastern end, it is now generally considered to begin at Elizabethtown. Parts of the trail are included in the southern section of the American Discovery Trail.
