The Vail Sonoita Highway was located and constructed in 1918. Lamar Cobb, the first State Engineer of Arizona and a member of the Constitutional Convention, was born in 1870 in Athens, Georgia, and died in 1926 in Phoenix, Arizona. It was erected to his memory by Governor George P. Hunt.
