Albert "Cap" Head was an early-day Jefferson land developer and banker who at one time owned 4,300 acres across six Greene County townships. Like his brother Mahlon, he served as mayor of Jefferson as well as four terms in the House of Representatives, where he was elected Speaker in the mid-1880s. A captain in the 10th Iowa Volunteers, he was wounded several times in various Civil War battles. He and Mahlon developed the Head House Hotel and the Head Brothers Opera House in Jefferson. They owned the land along the proposed Lincoln Highway at the "S" curve east of Jefferson. Albert was a trustee of Drake University and served as president of the State Agricultural Society.
