The 155 mm cannons had a maximum range of about 11 miles, probably about the greatest distance a surfaced U-boat could be seen from spotting towers in the dunes. Azimuths from two spotting towers could be used to graphically locate the target, and this location then could be used to give range and direction orders to the gunners. The land where the gun mounts are located is property of the University of Texas and Nueces County Parks, and the paved parking area is on the City of Port Aransas road right-of-way. More documents and pictures from the World War II era are at the Port Aransas Museum at the corner of 408 N. Alister and 101 E. Brundrett Streets.
