Part of the “Land of Promise” tract, this hamlet became a thriving commercial center through the original mill built in 1760, the present grist mill erected in 1794, the first Susquehanna River Bridge in 1818, and the Barge Canal in 1839. Surviving from this development are the Miller’s House, the Mill, the Toll House, and the Owner’s Mansion, built in 1804. Remains of the canal and bridge piers are also visible.
