Crusher Shed
Industry
1
Three walls supported the crusher shed, which contained a sieve and hoppers, while the rock crusher stood next to the building. Workers brought stone from the quarry and fed it into the crusher, then conveyor belt carried the crushed stone into a large steel cylinder called a multiple rotating sieve, which revolved at a slight angle. Part of the gearing at the base turned the sieve as the stone fell through different sized holes into hoppers, sorted by size. Horse carts and trucks backed into the passageways under the shed and were filled with different sizes of stone to be sold for road work. This stone was not heated in the kilns.
