Members of South Milford High School served their country in World War I, including an honor roll of local men and women, among them Kathryn Bell as a nurse. Ray Stroman was killed in action, Ray Malone died in service, and Nathan Kent and Earl Wilson were wounded. A bell dedicated with the monument cracked while ringing out the news of the signing of the armistice.
