Americans fought in wars from the Revolutionary War through the Middle East wars in defense of freedom, liberty, and justice, and more than 1.3 million American military men and women lost their lives as the nation struggled in wars and conflicts to hold, secure, and protect freedom. Born in revolution against tyranny and injustice, the American spirit sought a nation of free people and a government by free people, and that spirit is remembered as enduring as long as the dream of liberty and freedom remains in their hearts.
