The Midland & Northwestern Railroad was a standard gauge 66-mile line built by David Fasken, Sr., to carry cattle, ranch supplies, and passengers. It operated from 1916 to 1920, during the critical era of World War I and the aftermath of world starvation, linking the towns of Fasken, Florey, and Seminole with the Texas & Pacific Railway at Midland. At first it used a locomotive borrowed from T. & P., and the train had to stop for pasture gates to be opened. The crew shot coyotes and rattlesnakes, and during a breakdown passengers were fed and sheltered at Fasken while the work crew slept on the prairie. After being flooded out in 1920, the line was abandoned, and its roadbed is still visible.
