The high country of the Big Horn Mountains includes much of the 195,000-acre Cloud Peak Wilderness, which Congress designated as wilderness in 1984. Its highest point is Cloud Peak at 13,165 feet, while the Black Tooths to the north reach 13,005 feet and Bomber Mountain to the south rises to 12,436 feet. Bomber Mountain was named for a B-17 bomber that crashed there on June 28, 1943, with the loss of 10 lives. The wilderness area contains 256 fishing lakes and 49 miles of fishing streams, with Rainbow, Cutthroat, Brook, German Brown, California Golden, Mackinaw, and Grayling fish species. Big game animals in the area include elk, deer, moose, mountain sheep, and black bear.
