In Buffalo, Wyoming, an American West museum in the town’s 1909 Carnegie Library preserves Johnson County and frontier history. Built in the Neoclassical style beside the Johnson County Courthouse, the library was funded by Andrew Carnegie, with local support providing the site and maintenance. The museum, founded in 1957 and moved there in the late 1980s, presents dioramas and collections on regional life and conflict, including the Bozeman Trail, the Wagon Box Fight, the Johnson County War, the siege at the TA Ranch, and Buffalo’s Main Street in 1894. Together, the preserved building and its exhibits connect settlement, conflict, and community in this part of Wyoming.
