Double Arch is one of the best-known landmarks in Arches National Park, a close-set pair of natural arches rising from the same mass of red sandstone in southern Grand County, Utah. Unlike most arches in the park, it formed as a pothole arch through water erosion from above rather than mainly by side erosion. Its larger opening spans 148 feet and rises 104 feet, making it the park’s tallest opening and second-longest span. The formation also became widely recognizable from a brief appearance in the opening scene of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, though the cave shown there is not actually present.
