A large mounting block stands here as an artifact from the 19th and early 20th centuries, when the Grand Army House stood on this site. It made it easier for hotel guests and other travelers to climb aboard or step down from horse-drawn carriages, large Stanley Steamer Mountain Wagon auto stagecoaches, or to mount horses.
