Land Tortoise is an underwater archaeological site in Lake George, New York, preserving a British military radeau built in 1758 during the French and Indian War. Constructed by provincial militia under Captain Samuel Cobb as part of the effort to regain control of Lake George after the fall of Fort William Henry, the craft was launched and tested but deliberately sunk two days later for planned recovery in the next campaign. That recovery failed because it lay too deep. Considered the only surviving vessel of its type and likely the oldest intact warship in North America, the seven-sided wreck was discovered in 1990 and is now a protected underwater preserve.
