Mayo River State Park

Mayo River State Park is a relatively new North Carolina park near Mayodan that protects 2,778 acres along the Mayo River beside the Virginia border, adjoining Virginia’s park to form a continuous protected corridor. Authorized in 2003, it was assembled parcel by parcel, overcoming early limits on river access as new tracts were added in 2016 and 2019. Its best developed area, Mayo Mountain Access, reuses the site of the former Washington Mills Company recreation park. Other access points connect visitors to falls, river confluences, swimming areas, rapids, trails, and paddling launches, reflecting the park’s continuing growth around public access to the Mayo.
