Milo Meacham built the village's second hotel on this site. In addition to rental rooms, it contained a popular ice cream parlor and a large meeting hall. Political meetings and debates filled the hall with bitter voices over issues including slavery, and reports say that Abraham Lincoln spoke here. Dances and home talent offered lighter fare, including a band and minstrel troupe show organized by returning Civil War soldiers.
