Colquitt County was Georgia’s number one agricultural county, and this cypress totem pole symbolized the county’s history of farm progress while serving as a rallying point for present and future farmers. It was conceived by Mr. W. B. (Ed) Aycock, Sr., a pioneer and inspirational leader since 1909, and dedicated in the fall of 1963. At the age of eighty-eight, Aycock, a dynamic force in the development of the area, carved the pole by his own hand as a constant reminder that Colquitt County was, and must remain, Georgia’s agricultural leader.
