The Chase Lake Prairie Project is a major conservation effort in North Dakota focused on the wetlands around Chase Lake on the Missouri Coteau. Developed in response to severe wetland loss in the 1980s, it became the flagship project of the North American Waterfowl Management Plan after that agreement was signed by the United States and Canada in 1986. Formally dedicated in September 1989, the project seeks to restore waterfowl habitat while preserving productive agriculture through native grasses, rotational grazing, wetland restoration, and measures to reduce overhunting and mammal predation. By 2005, more than 2,000 wetland basins had been protected or restored, and the work continued in 2019.
