Bicentennial Park in Wentzville grew from plans approved in January 1976 for the park and its associated Liberty Garden, was officially dedicated on November 12, 1977, and was developed to celebrate the nation's first 200 years, with a general design based on an original flag design for the city and a concrete circle 68 feet in diameter. The concept also involved a Bicentennial Commission created in January 1979. The park contains a sunken time capsule scheduled to be opened in 2076. It stands near the site of Civil War engagements on July 15 and 17, 1861, between Union soldiers traveling by train and Missouri Bushwackers who were Confederate sympathizers, and a mural about the event is located farther east on Pearce Boulevard. Another element of the park is the WWI/WWII Memorial, erected in 2019 as a general replica of an earlier honor roll along Pearce Boulevard that listed Wentzville residents who served during WWII; after the original structure fell into disrepair and was removed, a mural commemorating WWI veterans was placed on the reverse side of the monument, which was created through the joint effort of several local organizations.
