The city of Fitchburg erected this memorial to honor the valor and patriotism of the men who served in the war with Spain, the Philippine insurrection, and the China relief expedition from 1898 to 1902. It was dedicated on September 1, 1924, under the auspices of Guanica Camp No. 9, United Spanish War Veterans.
