Lawrenceville, Georgia
· “My Word is my Bond”
History
3
In 1935, Jule Oakes moved his wife Jewel and his family into this house and, through love and hard work, they made it a warm and inviting showplace. On Saturdays, the Oakes home, kitchen, and front porch welcomed family and visitors, and the door was never locked. After serving his country in the Calvary in France during WWI, he also served his community as a 50 year Mason and as Lawrenceville's mayor in 1949 and 1950. He was known for a generous heart, an infectious sense of humor, and the belief that his word was his bond, reflected in successful land and business ventures. His enduring legacy was his philanthropic spirit and dedication to his community.
